When is a Fly Not a Fly ?

Hi,

I like to experiment with my fly tying and have been toying with ideas for the new sea trout season which may not follow traditional designs . The question is where do we draw the line ? I suspect all fly fishers would stop short at casting a toby on a double - handed salmon rod but what about adding various components to a fly such as tiny spoons , beads or weighted bodies ?
Please help.
